Hi, I'm Billie Moon
In 2021, my world changed overnight. As a single mother, I was suddenly navigating uncertainty after being laid off from my job. I stood at a crossroads, unsure of what was next. But instead of letting fear define me, I chose to create.
The Magic Crystal was born from that moment. A story shaped by my love of interactive adventures, storytelling, and my daughter’s boundless curiosity. I poured myself into crafting a book where every decision matters, just like in real life. And in the process, I found healing, purpose, and a path forward.

What's in a name?
The name Billie Moon is a tribute to my daughter, Elizabeth. ‘Billie’ is a playful twist on her name, inspired by one of its many short forms. Coupled with ‘Moon,’ it reflects a promise I made to her—to love her to the moon and back. It’s a name wrapped in love, adventure, and endless possibility.
Breaking free from imperfections
For years, perfectionism and self-doubt kept me from fully embracing my creativity. With ADHD, a lifelong struggle with reading, and a habit of second-guessing every detail, writing and illustrating a book felt impossible. As a designer, I convinced myself my drawings weren’t good enough and my words wouldn’t flow the right way.
But The Magic Crystal changed that. It became my first foray into interactive storytelling and a breakthrough in trusting my creative instincts—imperfections and all.
Now, I see those “imperfections” for what they are—a vital part of the magic. I hope this book inspires children to create without fear, embrace their unique voices, and find courage in their choices—both in stories and in life.
Life is an adventure
I have always believed that life mirrors a game. Every decision leads to a new outcome, and every path holds a lesson. As a single mum, gamer, and creative technologist, my passions have always been rooted in exploration and imagination.
Before diving into storytelling, I took quite the unconventional career journey spanning over two decades. I started as a software engineer, inspired by the movie Hackers, but soon pivoted to design when reality didn’t match the movie. I taught myself everything—graphic design, web development, art direction, user experience, and even product design. Every twist in my career taught me resilience and curiosity, the very qualities I hope to inspire in young readers.

The Magic Crystal isn’t just a book. It is my way of sharing that philosophy with children. It encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and self-discovery because I believe the best stories don’t just entertain, they empower.
A multi-sensory experience
The Magic Crystal is an experience that goes beyond just words on a page. With interactive storytelling, whimsical rhymes, and beautifully hand-painted illustrations, every journey is different.
And the magic doesn’t stop there. To make this adventure even more immersive, I have created:
✨ Downloadable paper dolls – So children can bring their favourite characters to life.
✨ Make-your-own crystal activity – Encouraging hands-on creativity.
✨ Upcoming surprises – Special edition keepsakes, room mists inspired by the story, and more.
Because reading should be more than just turning pages. It should be felt, explored, and cherished.
A story parents can trust
I’ve never been a conventional parent. I believe in raising bold thinkers, not just well-behaved children. In my home, curiosity is encouraged, mistakes are part of learning, and books aren’t just for reading. They’re for questioning, exploring, and coming back to, time and time again.
I know how important it is to find books that don’t just entertain but also help shape young minds. My goal with The Magic Crystal was to create a story that sparks curiosity, confidence, and meaningful conversations—while being a book kids will return to, again and again.
Whether your child is a reluctant reader, an adventure-loving bookworm, or somewhere in between, this book meets them where they are, encouraging confidence, creativity, and exploration in a way that feels effortless and fun.
A book that grows with the reader
I wrote The Magic Crystal to be a book that children return to time and time again. One that grows with them, sparking new insights and conversations as they experience different parts of life.
Whether it is introducing big ideas in simple ways, encouraging meaningful conversations, or bringing families together over a story that unfolds differently each time, this book is so much more than an adventure. It is a foundation for raising thoughtful, curious, and bold thinkers.
Thank you for being part of this journey
I hope The Magic Crystal becomes a beloved part of your family’s storytime—a book that your child will look back on with fondness, curiosity, and the courage to dream big.
